Green-Wood Cemetery Photo Walk
Weekly Event - Every Tuesday: 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM (EDT)
Established in 1838, Green-Wood is one of the oldest and most beautiful cemeteries in the country. At 478 acres, it's one of the largest cemeteries with over a half million permanent "residents," including such famous and infamous folks as Leonard Bernstein, Boss Tweed, William "Bill The Butcher" Poole, Joey Gallo, and Samuel F.B. Morse. Green-Wood is also a Revolutionary War historic site (the Battle of Long Island in 1776 was fought on its grounds). For bird watchers, it's famous gates are now home to the Parrots of Brooklyn. Photo opportunities abound in this magnificent historic location right in the middle of Brooklyn.
The cemetery offers a perfect opportunity to get some great shots of historic landmarks, birds, and allows you to the opportunity to practice shooting both close-up style photography as well as landscapes.
This photowalk is offered every Tuesday and Saturday afternoon throughout the year, so don't worry if you miss one; just sign up for the next one.
We meet at the entrance to the cemetery and make our way in a loop which ends at the same location. This entrance is only a block or two from the subway stop. Admission to the cemetery is free. So join us for a beautiful walk in this historic location.
During these photo walks, our photographers will offer hands-on advice regarding how to get the most from your camera. Most walks last between 2-3 hours and are a great way to visit these great locations in the city, with camera in hand.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
The Cemetery has a parking lot and there is plenty of street parking. The closet subway station, one block away from the main entrance, is the 25th Street station of the R Train.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
Don't bring your tripod because the Cemetery does not allow them to be used.
