Green Infrastructure Stormwater Management Techniques

With the expanding regulatory push to decrease stormwater volume and improve stormwater quality, increasing attention is being given to the use of green infrastructure stormwater management techniques.  While growing popular, these techniques are often misapplied, improperly designed or inadequately maintained.  This new and innovative one-day class will explore those techniques being implemented on an increasingly frequent basis throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.  The focus of this program deals with the proper selection, design, implementation and maintenance of green infrastructure techniques commonly used in urban and suburban settings. Multiple site examples will be provided.


Additionally, with the interest of DEP in sustainable remediation, the impacts of capping contaminated sites may be mitigated by the innovative approaches discussed in this course. Therefore, LSRPs are encouraged to attend this program as they should be aware of the alternatives to "hard caps" in reducing stormwater runoff.

Faculty Coordinator:

Dr. Stephen Souza is a Founding Partner of Princeton Hydro, LLC. He has implemented a wide array of nonpoint source and stormwater pollution control strategies, including created wetlands, bio-retention basins, infiltration/recharge systems, sand filters, riparian buffers and other bio-engineered "green" stormwater techniques. Dr. Souza frequently provides expert testimony and technical guidance regarding the ecosystem impacts of stormwater runoff. He serves as the stormwater quality management consultant for a number of municipalities and regional resource conservation groups located throughout New Jersey.

Continuing Professional Education Services, LLC at Montclair State University

Continuing Professional Education Services (CPES) is the former Continuing Environmental Education for Professionals (CEEP) initiated by the College of Science and Mathematics (CSAM) at Montclair State University in the fall of 2015. CPES, the product of PB&J Continuing Professional Education Services, LLC has assumed the management and operation as of July 1, 2017 and will continue the mission of providing continuing education courses to professionals at the Montclair State University campus. CPES will be offering courses that provide required credits for Licensed Site Remediation Professionals, attorneys, professional engineers and many other professionals certified and/or licensed in the states of Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania to name a few.

 

Continuing Professional Education Services, LLC is the brain child of Dr. Jorge H. Berkowitz and Philip I. Brilliant. From the inception of the Continuing Environmental Education for Professional (CEEP) program at the College of Science and Mathematics (CSAM) at Montclair State University, Dr. Berkowitz and Mr. Brilliant have been in the classroom and in the boardroom assuring the success of the program. In order to better serve the community of professionals, Dr. Berkowitz and Mr. Brilliant stepped forward with a solution that has saved the ability to offer continuing education credit-bearing courses at the second largest public higher education institution in New Jersey. Together they form CPES at Montclair State University!
