Event description

Please check here to see the video of the Green Educator Course.

A diverse network of educators and sense of community is created through this fully immersive programme in which participants stay overnight on the Green School campus. For 4 nights, 5 days, attendees will experience green living at its finest while sleeping in Green School's Student Village - a 2-story breezy, bamboo dorm and sharing some of the most delicious food on the island, prepared by Green School's amazing local kitchen team. Our Green School teachers and community members will provide our participants with an enriching educational experience.

5 Day Programme: 'Permaculture Design Education'

Permaculture is a lens through which we can see a regenerative future. It involves and connects all disciplines in education and it is everything within and touched upon the 3 Ethics: Earth Care, People Care & Future Care. Education should break through the idea that we are separate from the world around us, from nature, from animals, from soil, and from each other. Every human being should be able to grow food, save seeds, and prepare food as a basic building block for all their education. The most important element is how youth are getting involved and what the story is of making a regenerative culture which is in the hands of the ones who dream it and do it. We are inviting Charles Mugarura, Chief Executive Officer & Lead Permaculture Tutor & Designer of Broadfield Enterprises - Permaculture Group in Uganda, to share his story about community resilience, small enterprises, replicable efforts in communities and other very strong ideas and examples. Within the course, we’ll join our Middle School three day Permaculture Program where Charles and our Green School educators will co-facilitate a program for the Green Educator Course participants in cooperation with our Middle School Students. The exercise in this three day program will focus on reverse engineering to try to see how, and if things fit into a permaculture model or if we could put them into a master plan. Green School is a campus filled with projects that may or may not have been designed using permaculture. The purpose of this course is how we can design education to be dynamic, fun and at the same time give an introduction to the power of permaculture for youth.
