Event description

Description

8000 houses here? - Redhill Aerodrome is just of the green sites across Surrey being fingered for development.

Housing and other development on the Green Belt is one of the main threats to our countryside, recreation, open spaces, climate mitigation and carbon reduction goals. At the same time we need to find places for people to live. The recently established All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Green Belt is finding ways to square this circle by research looking into brownfield sites and assessing strategic housing needs on a national basis. The Federation of Surrey Green Parties has organised this meeting because it's an issue that crops up time and again on the doorstep. We need Council policies that address these problems and fast. Otherwise we face thousands of houses, millions of pounds going into the pockets of developers and landowners, and people on average incomes who can't find somewhere to live.

For the Campaign to Protect Rural England this issue is its bread and butter. It was established because of urban sprawl into the countryside. Kristina Kenworthy is the chair of Surrey CPRE and will give a presentation on CPRE's campaigning work on this topic. There will be time for questions and discussion.

Lunch is available afterwards at the vegetarian cafe, The Beano, which is inside the venue.

The event is free and open to all.
