Suitable for adults and children over 12 years when accompanied by an adult.
We welcome visits to Greatmoor Energy from Waste where visitors can enjoy a tour to see what we do and how we do it. We are also open to school and community groups which are booked separately.
As we are a working industrial site, you will need to be mobile enough to evacuate in the unlikely event of an emergency and you must be prepared to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) which will be provided. The Health and Safety of our visitors and employees is our priority so you will receive instructions which must be followed at all times.
We run several Open Days through the year so please find and reserve your place now. We will ask you to confirm that you have read and accepted our Terms & Conditions.
We reserve the right to cancel at short notice due to operational requirements.
Frequently asked questions
If your child is over 12, yes, but they must be accompanied at all times by their responsible adult and follow the Tour Leader's instructions. Our smallest safety shoes (which must be worn) are a size 13. Please contact us for advice if your children are between 7 and 11 years.
We are sorry, dogs are not permitted on site and should not be left unattended in the car park. Please contact us for information if you have a registered service dog.
We have a lift so you will not have to walk up the stairs but you will need to be physically fit enough to stand and move around - including short flights of stairs - for approximately 90 minutes. You should be able to descend the stairs unaided as we cannot use the lift in an emergency.
If you have a pacemaker or a hearing aid or any magnetic implant, you should make the Tour Leader aware so that you stay outside the Turbine Hall.
No - there is no cafe on the site but we have free access to water and will happily make you a cup of tea or coffee. The Visitor Centre has its own toilets.
NO! We are not easy to find. We will send you details of how to find us and there is ONLY ONE WAY IN so please do follow the instructions. You must drive to site - there is no pedestrian access and no cycling on the access road.
Please come in long sleeves & trousers. We will supply you with PPE : Hi Viz, hard hat, safety glasses & gloves and steel toe cap boots. We have a good supply of sizes 13 (child) to 13 (adult). Please contact us if you need a different size & we can check availability. You can bring your own PPE
You will get a safety briefing and don PPE. We will take a tour of the facility and you are welcome to ask questions. We will return to the Visitor Centre to remove PPE and see the Turbine Demo. There may be time for Recycling Activities. The Visit lasts approximately 2 hours.
It takes about 15 minutes to drive down our access road so please give yourself plenty of time. We cannot add latecomers to the tour so please re-book.
We run tours every year and may add additional tours if we have numbers. Please see our website and add yourself to the Waiting List on Eventbrite.
We are a working industrial site and there may be sudden and/or loud noises. Some of the tour is on gridded walkways at about 23m in height - you can stay by the wall and will not miss anything. We will not be going up the chimney stack. You can use the stairs if necessary. Unsure? Please ASK!
