Description

Programme

'Careers Service: Application Forms' - This workshop is facilitated by Careers Services from Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Manchester and University of Salford. During this workshop you will have the opportunity to consider what is required in your personal specification form (a key requirement when applying for social work posts) and ask any questions in relation to applying for jobs.

'Employers: Interviewing Skills' - Employers from Local Authorities and the Private, Voluntary and Independent sector will lead this workshop to share with you the standards expected within the interview process.

'NQSW Panel' - This is a panel of Newly Qualified Social Workers who have taken time out of their busy schedule to share with us their experiences of applying for jobs. This is a chance to hear the highs and lows from the people who know.

'Employer led mock interview experience' - This is an opportunity for you to practise and shape your interviewing skills in a safe environment with the employers who have everyday experience of interviewing NQSWs. You will shortly receive a copy of interview questions via the email address you signed up with, for you to consider prior to the day. Please bring your notes with you and join in the exercise of 1:1 interview practise and receive constructive feedback.

Hello to final year students from Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Manchester and University of Salford,

The Greater Manchester Social Work Academy (GMSWA) is a grouping of 3 Higher Education Institutes (Salford University, Manchester Metropolitan and Manchester University) and 10 Local Authorities (Salford, Manchester, Rochdale, Oldham, Bolton, Bury, Tameside, Stockport, Wigan and Trafford) and a representation of the private and voluntary sector (PVI’s). Together as a Teaching Partnership we are hosting a unique Social Work Careers Fair, to which we are inviting final year social work students from the 3 Universities involved.

This is a great opportunity as you come to the end of your social work course to meet potential future employers, some of whom will have job opportunities available on the day.

There will also be opportunities for you to fine-tune interview techniques directly with employers and careers services from all Universities will be on hand to help with application form writing. You can also meet directly with Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs) who have applied for jobs and been successful.

Main registration will be from 9.30am - 10am

Various events with employers from the Teaching Partnership and voluntary agencies from Greater Manchester.
