Greater Manchester Assembly Campaigning Meeting
20% of MPs went to Oxford or Cambridge. 23% of them went to private school. There are more members of the House of Lords from Eton, the school of the royal family, than from the whole of the North West. It is clear: politics as usual is broken and we desperately need to reboot our democracy. We, at the 858 Project, are calling for greater powers for ordinary people in Greater Manchester and beyond. But we can't do it alone: we need you with us!
If you're based in Manchester, Trafford, Salford or Stockport then join us at the Friends' Meeting House (ground floor meeting room F11) for an exciting event where we'll be discussing how to put power in the hands in the ordinary people across Greater Manchester and how you can get involved! Food and fun will be provided!
This in-person meeting will bring together passionate individuals from across Greater Manchester to strategise and plan for how we can build greater democracy for Greater Manchester. Whether you're a seasoned activist or new to campaigning, everyone is welcome to attend. Everyone's input is needed for us to win big and transform our democracy!
The venue is wheelchair-accessible and in central Manchester, near the Central Library in St Peter's Square. Transport links - trams, train to Piccadilly or Oxford Road, and buses - are close by. Parking can be hard to find so we recommend public transport/bike/walking wherever possible.
Join the waiting list if spaces are full.

Please contact Liv at liv@858.org.uk before the end of July and she will ensure these are accommodated wherever possible.
We haven't currently organised one. If this is something you need: let Liv know 29th July latest and she will see what she can do!
This meeting is organised by Liv, who works for the Sortition Foundation, and it is part of our 858 Project, campaigning for a system run by and for ordinary people. We are calling for greater democracy in Greater Manchester via assemblies, and replacing the House of Lords with a House of Citizens.
Yes! We may not form a group local to you immediately but join us and we can discuss!
So long as you don't have a fight at the meeting!-- Only joking: of course you can! We want as many people there as possible. There is a cap on meeting capacity but, if we don't all fit in the space, we will find a way to accommodate.
Join the waiting list - we'll do what we can to get you involved and we'll keep you up to date with future developments!
The majority of food will be vegetarian with some vegan options. There will be gluten-free options. There will be no meat provided.
Yes, of course! We prefer that people arrive on time and stay for the whole meeting but if you can't then that's totally okay - come for as long as possible!
We'd prefer people to come only if they've signed-up, as this allows us to stay in touch with you and ensures we don't over-crowd the space. However, if you're really keen but haven't managed to sign-up, come say hi on the day and give Liv your details to chat OR email Liv at: liv@858.org.uk
