Description

Gratitude and Thanksgiving

With Ayya Anandabodhi and Ayya Santacitta

Saturday, November 23 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

First Unitarian Universalist Church

1187 Franklin (between Geary and O’Farrell)

The path begins and ends with generosity. When we can meet this moment with gratitude our practice becomes more stable and we experience contentment and a deeper sense of connection with life as it is.

TO REGISTER: Pre-register here. The sliding scale registration fee is $35 to $150. Please pay the highest level that you can afford in order to support those who have fewer resources. Pre-registration is encouraged, but it is possible to register at the door on November 23, space permitting.

TEACHER DANA: Our teachers are supported solely by your donation for their time and teachings (they do not receive any portion of the registration fee). San Francisco Insight suggests a donation of $35 to $150 for the daylong. Teacher dana can be offered by check, cash or credit card at the daylong. All donations will be passed along to Aloka Vihara Forest Monastery, the home of Ayya Anandabodhi and Ayya Santacitta. Other donations are also gratefully accepted so if you would like to bring provisions for Aloka Vihara, please visit https://alokavihara.org/support-2/dana-list/

LUNCH: Please bring lunch for yourself and, if you wish, food to share with the monastics and fellow participants. You will have an opportunity to make offerings to the Ayyas as part of this monastic day of practice. Please bring only vegetarian food to share and please bring any serving utensils your dish requires. If your dish includes nuts, dairy or gluten, please label your dishes. We will have pens and paper on the food offering table for this purpose.

FOR INFORMATION: Visit sfinsight.org or call 415-727-6220.

Ayya Anandabodhi first encountered the Buddha's teachings in her early teens, igniting a deep interest in the Buddha's Path of Awakening. She lived and trained as a nun the Forest Tradition at Amaravati and Chithurst monasteries in England from 1992 until 2009, when she moved to the US to help establish Aloka Vihara Forest Monastery, a training monastery for women. Her practice and teaching are guided by early Buddhist scriptures and through nature's pure and immediate Dhamma. In 2011, she took full Bhikkhuni Ordination, joining the growing number of women who are reclaiming this path in the Theravada tradition. She currently resides at Aloka Vihara, near Placerville, CA.

Ayya Santacitta has practiced meditation since 1988. Her first teacher was Ajahn Buddhadasa, who sparked her interest in Buddhist monastic life. She has trained as a nun in both the East and West since 1993, primarily in the lineage of Ajahn Chah. Since 2002 she has also received teachings in the lineage of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. She is co-founder of Aloka Vihara Forest Monastery and received bhikkhuni ordination in 2011. She is particularly interested in creating sanctuary close to nature, practicing in community, and bringing wisdom traditions to the environmental movement.

For those unable to afford the registration fee at the low end of the sliding scale, some limited income & scholarship slots are available. Please call 415-727-6220 prior to the first class if the registration fee is an obstacle to your participation.
