GRANT-SEEKING CRASH COURSE PART II

Presented by Janeal Ford, Fordable Freelance and Marti Hess, Envision Consulting

Are you interested in pursuing grant funding, but don’t know where to start? Is 2018 the year you secure a grant award for your charity? Join us for this two-part crash course in grant development. Learn how to identify grant sources that align with your cause, know what it takes to be competitive for grant funding and how to prepare a knock out proposal.


Part I

Overview of grant seeking and identifying potential grant makers
Wednesday, January 24 th 6:30 -8:30pm

During day one attendees will receive an overview of grant seeking including benefits and drawbacks of grant funds. An introduction to prospect search will be provided. Using online data tools, learn how to identify grant makers that align with your cause and hear tips for optimizing your approach.

Key Learning Objectives

  • Recognize what your organization needs to be competitive for grant awards and key considerations for managing grant funds

  • Identify resources that help you identify grant makers and understand key criteria used to maximize fit and potential giving

Part II

Proposal Development

Wednesday, January 31 st 6:30-8:30pm

Day two will focus on proposal development including a review of key proposal sections. You will then understand what grant makers are looking for and how to develop a competitive proposal.

Key Learning Objectives

  • Discuss key questions found in grant applications and gain knowledge of what grant makers are looking for and why.

  • Discuss the process for completion and submission of proposals with tips and tricks to maximize efficiency and award potential.


Janeal Ford, MPA, CFRE
Fordable Freelance
Janeal has a heart for service and is dedicated to improving communities. After more than 15 years of leading fundraising programs for human services organizations, she founded Fordable Freelance, a fundraising consulting firm that helps nonprofits accelerate giving and maximize mission impact.


Janeal is an expert grant writer and speaker who enjoys inspiring nonprofit professionals and business leaders to make a difference in their communities. To date, her efforts have helped nonprofits secure more than $60 million dollars. Janeal received a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Utah. She has held the Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation since 2011. Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, she has called San Diego, California home for the past four years.


Marti Hess
Envision Consulting
Marti has over 20 years experience working with nonprofit organizations, primarily in the human services sector. Her skills range from program design to executive leadership. Marti supports individual and organizational transition and growth by visioning the big picture, facilitating ideation, and participating in the genesis of new initiatives. Her leadership style is facilitative, working with others to develop strategic direction, implementing objectives, and achieving desired outcomes. Marti currently serves as a grant writing consultant to several
nonprofit organizations in San Diego, and teaches a grant development class through the San Diego Community College District.
