Description

Combining real-time NASA satellite data and imagery sourced by the artists Kate Doyle and Chris Clay, Ouroboros is a self-contained walk-through sculpture made of interconnected chambers. Using video projections, stills, sounds from earth and space, the visitor encounters real-time generated light forms depicting earth’s climate systems, its atmosphere, ocean currents. The imagery is created by data visualizations from NASA and the artists’ own pictorial work, using stylized animations and impressionistic images.

This project brings together science and art by using imagery generated by actual satellite data as a foundation, merging with the artists’ own video and still visualization to create an aesthetic experience. Can science and visual art be combined to demonstrate the interconnectedness of earth systems and their delicate balance?

Speakers: Juergen Drescher, Katherine Doyle, OtHA Artist-in-Residence; Bruce Adolphe, composer and OtHA Artistic Director; David Randall, CSU University Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Sciences; Ross Cunniff, City of Fort Collins City Council Member.
