Come help us celebrate the grand opening of our new Family History Research Center, kinship! We're opening the new center with a whole weekend of family-friendly genealogical activities to get you excited to research your own heritage.
On Friday night from 5 -7 pm, join us, along with local dignitaries and donors, for kinship's official opening at the Miller House. Be among the first to tour the newly renovated Family Heritage Research Center. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony with a reception afterwards in the Miller House Museum.
On Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm at the Miller House, enjoy an all-day family history open house! Staff will be on hand to help, and you can enjoy activities like: scavenger hunts and wordsearches, vintage home movie viewings, make your own pedigree charts and family group sheets, and learn more about the resources of kinship.
At the same time, from 9 am to 3:30 pm at St. Mary's Fatima Hall, enjoy an all-day genealogy workshop with panels about church and cemetery records, wills and probate records, property research and DNA genealogy. Speakers include Mary Mannix from the Frederick County Maryland Public Library, John Lowe, a DNA scientist, and Jason Malott, the Washington County Register of Wills.
Sunday morning, kinship will be open from 10 am to noon, and will be offering tours of the new facility, introductions to the various tools available in the library, "Break Through Your Brick Wall" consultations with staff genealogists, and games and activities for the whole family!
At 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Bridge of Life Church in downtown Hagerstown, come enjoy vintage films from the Washington County Historical Society's Film Preservation Project. See what Washington County looked like in the 1940s in a vintage theatre setting! Tickets for the movie are $5/person.
