Event description

Description

The West Virginia Trainers Project supports organizers in West Virginia to gain the training and facilitation skills necessary for our social and economic justice organizations to be effective. Created by and for West Virginia organizers, The Project meets a critical need in our Southern state where few home-grown skill-building opportunities exist.

Join us this February 10th for a big old House Party!

Together we'll honor the Project's first graduates with awards, eat some pie from a top-notch pie action, listen to live music--and raise the scholarship funds for 2018, that will help a growing number of West Virginia organizers make use of this program.

Can't make it to the party but want to show your support? Click on the "tickets" link and make your donation!

Two year ago, with no funding, no staff, and no program resources, a team of West Virginia organizers set out after a vision. They believed that West Virginia could develop a long-haul, home-grown program to back community organizers and community leaders in increasing their skills to train and facilitate groups. They knew what we know: that the work of making change is the work of groups; as organizers, we are successful when our people are.

In the eighteen months, the West Virginia Trainers Project has come to life: 50 organizers have graduated from a West Virginia Training for Trainers, 6 of those organizers are rounding out the last months of a year-long coaching program, and 17 organizers will graduate from an Advanced skills training in November.

In a short time, these graduates have put tools and skills from the program right to use: in trainings on racial equity, in organizing efforts for food justice and food access, in canvasses for women's rights, in building up the advocacy skills of young people, in hosting local meetings on community development--and more.

Come celebrate how far we've come--and make an investment in the continuation of this unique and critical project!
