Event description
Explore the traditional Lenten disciplines as relevant and powerful gifts for drawing closer to Christ at a time of disruption.

About this Event

This four-session course explores the traditional Lenten disciplines of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving, as relevant and powerful gifts for drawing closer to Christ at a time of profound change in the church and wider society. Each session explores a traditional Lenten practice, tracing Scriptural foundations, its place in the Anglican spiritual tradition, and its practice as an opportunity to learn and grow in these unusual and challenging times. Course participants are invited to engage in guided practice during the weeks between class sessions. Clergy are invited to bring members of their congregation for a congregational Lenten study of the practices of fasting, the Daily Office, Intercession and Thanksgiving, and Almsgiving. Attend as a congregational cohort and make this your congregational Lenten study.

The Rev. Mark Michael is rector of St. Francis Church in Potomac and editor of The Living Church. He has taught about Christian ethics and spirituality in parish, school, and diocesan settings for nearly twenty years and has written many articles on these topics.
