FREE event and each town will receive a FREE GPS unit (link to more info: Garmin Oregon 650) for participating!

This training is for public works and highway personnel in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties who would like to learn how to use global positioning system (GPS) equipment in their work and especially in dealing with the aftermath of disasters, which create problems--debris piles, failed sewers, etc.--that need to be documented in order to mitigate future issues and to receive reimbursement from disaster funds. Additionally, there will be a short seminar explaining ACAMS (Automated Critical Assessment Management System) and how the system can be used to track infrastructure that is damaged repetitively and severely in an effort to collect information in a manner that is consistent and recognized by FEMA, which should simplify the reimbursement process and increase recoupable funds by local communities that have sustained damage following declared storm events.

One registrant per town, additional registrants from a town as space allows.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

7:30-8:30am: Registration (light breakfast) & receive FREE GPS unit (one per town)

8:30-10:30am: Seminar & training on GPS equipment

10:30-10:40am: Break

10:40-11:40am: Field practice (drill) with GPS equipment

11:40am-12:15pm: Lunch (provided, free) & "Hotwash" (participant feedback on seminar & drill)

12:15-1:00pm: Seminar on using GPS software

1:00-2:00pm: ACAMS seminar

2:00-2:15pm: Final Hotwash
