GPS Clinic: Big Data for Foreign Policy

The advent of big data has fundamentally changed the capacity for processing and exchanging information. NGOs, governments, and companies alike are just beginning to understand the potential big data have in analyzing and addressing a range of foreign policy challenges. This clinic will explore how big data is being used to respond to international crises, create early warning mechanisms, monitor elections, provide banking services, ensure effective governance, and much more. It will also take a critical approach and consider key challenges related to access, privacy, implementation, scale, and evaluation based on evidence that working with big data presents. It will be a hands-on and interactive learning environment with a variety of examples from organizations working in the field.

There are 25 seats for the lottery. The lottery will be run on 2/10, and students will be notified at that time whether they were selected for a seat. If you do not receive a seat, your deposit will be refunded immediately. If you do receive a seat, your refund will be issued only upon completion of the clinic. If you receive a seat and do not attend the clinic, you will forfeit your deposit. If you receive a seat and need to cancel for any reason, you must do so no later than 48 hours before the clinic.
NOTE: There is a $30 deposit for this clinic. Upon completion of the clinic, your deposit will be refunded.
