Join us and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Governor’s New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Awards. The annual celebration recognizes citizens throughout the State for their outstanding contributions to the public service, echoing the words of President Kennedy, “Let the public service be a proud and lively career.” This year’s golden anniversary awards represent a proud tribute to some of our State’s finest citizens.

NMDPSA is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit. All funds raised by NMDPSA are donated to New Mexico universities as scholarships for students pursuing an education in public service fields. We believe it is imperative to develop and encourage leadership and active citizenship at all levels.
History of the Awards
The Awards began in the 1960's when it became increasingly difficult to recruit the highest levels of talent for government service. In response, the National Civil Service League initiated a program to recognize outstanding service by both public employees and private citizens who volunteer their time to the public service. At the invitation of Dr. Albert H. Rosenthal, former Professor of Public Administration at the University of New Mexico, the awards were brought to our State and then Governor Cargo and the New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Awards were born.
The primary objective of the awards is to recognize outstanding contributions to the public service and to the improvement of the government at all levels by both government employees and private citizens. The awards recognize and celebrate the role of civic leaders in improved government while encouraging the highest levels of excellence in the pursuit of public service. Ultimately, the Awards heighten awareness and appreciation of public service achieving President's Kennedy's goal of drawing the best and brightest to all levels of public service.
