Event description

Description

Africa continues to emerge as an industry leader in disruptive technologies and business models that are changing the financial inclusion landscape. The pace of changing technology, emerging risks, evolving delivery channels and new competitors has many leaders and boards rethinking their strategies and governance role.

The Governing in a Digital Age Roundtable, an Africa Board Fellowship event hosted at Africa Microfinance Week, will cover key governance issues among leading CEOs, board members, investors and regulators from African microfinance and financial inclusion industries. Over two days, financial inclusion industry leaders from throughout Africa will engage in peer learning and exchange about how boards and regulators are adapting their strategy as new and disruptive channels and models emerge. The roundtable also provides an opportunity for participants to exchange with experts in the areas of technology, governance, risk and strategic planning.

For the most current updated Roundtable agenda please follow this link

Thematic questions to be explored at the roundtable include:

  • Is your business model working well, evolving, or is it changing completely? What does that mean for employees/clients?

  • In what way should the board engage with regulators to facilitate a balance between encouraging innovation and ensuring clients are protected?

  • What is the role of the board with respect to digital regulation?

  • What is the board’s role in developing a strategy around disruptive technologies? How should a board be structured to take advantage of new technologies? What knowledge/experience does a board need to have?

  • What will your bank look like in the future? Will the role of bank branches change as new banking models emerge – to customer service centers, or even cafes?

  • How does the board ensure that digital services provide appropriate products to varied segments, i.e. the most vulnerable clients, the rural clients, etc.?

  • How much human touch do clients want? How does a board judge how much human touch is needed, and in what form?

Please RSVP to indicate your interest in attending and we will follow-up with additional information.
