Take The Lead Presents: Virtual Happy Hour series, seeks to change the narrative from problems to solutions through thought leadership.

Got Girl Power Nostalgia?

Feeling nostalgic for the 1990’s and Girl Power? There’s a dark side to that story and this month, our guests stop by to rewind the tape and explain.

Join us on July 11th 6:30 PM ET for a conversation about how the 1990’s tried to “fix” feminism and laid the groundwork for the misogyny we see today.

We’ll be live at SheKnows Media’s New York City studios with Gloria Feldt, co-founder and President of Take The Lead, along with Reshma Gopaldas, the Senior VP of Video Programming at SheKnows Media joining Gloria as a co-host. As guests we're excited to bring you the critically acclaimed journalist Allison Yarrow and author of 90s Bitch: Media, Culture, and The Failed Promise if Gender Equality and women’s leadership advocate and former COO of Morgan Stanley Europe May Busch for our own trip into pop culture’s power to shape our perceptions and life decisions. We will talk about:

  • What we can learn from the bitchification of women;
  • How looking at the history of women in the 1990’s will help us move closer to parity;
  • How Girl Power turned a female empowerment movement into a buying spree;
  • What can women leaders do to defuse and shift the new wave of cultural sexism?

May Busch brings her insights and experiences following her successful investment banking career to help top leaders advance their organizations, and to promote greater thought leadership, diversity and entrepreneurial spirit in the workplace. Prior to this, May enjoyed a 24-year career at Morgan Stanley spanning two continents and nine different business roles across Investment Banking, Capital Markets and Firm Management. She was most recently Chief Operating Officer for Europe where she was responsible for the development and implementation of the Firm’s business strategy in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

She is a Senior Advisor and Executive in Residence in the Office of the President, and Professor of Practice at W.P. Carey School of Business, at ASU (Arizona State University). She lectures on leadership, and works on interdisciplinary initiatives across the university with an emphasis on leadership, entrepreneurship and enhancing the engagement between business and academia.

Allison Yarrow is an award-winning journalist and National Magazine Award finalist whose work has appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Vox, and many others.
