Event description
Learn parts in depth for Gospel, Spiritual & West and South African Songs with Dr Kathy Bullock and Fran André

About this Event

Learn a range of Gospel songs, Spirituals & Songs from West and South Africa. Songs will vary in difficulty level from fairly easy to a bit more challenging. These songs will be pitched for the community choir singer, so there will be no fiendishly difficult songs to learn - don't worry!

You will have two sessions on the 18th and 25th April (one taught by Kathy, one taught by Fran) with your individual voice section (soprano, alto, tenor or bass). You will get the chance to learn your parts fully, and have opportunity to ask to go over bits and ask questions. You will be sent your parts to listen to / practise at home as mp3 audio files.

Then during the final session on 2nd May, everyone will come together and we will sing all of the songs as mini-performances. We will also sing some short Gospel songs with Kathy which we will learn in the moment, and you will get some very valuable tips on how to sing this music authentically and in the style .

The sing throughs from this session will be recorded and you will get a copy of the recordings sent to you as a memento! When we say performances, this is nothing to worry about - it is all very relaxed and noone will know whether you get your part fully right or not, this is all about your enjoyment :)

You will get the opportunity to purchase the full resource packs (with mp3 audios of each voice part) for all the songs. This is ideal for choir leaders wanting to teach the songs to their choirs - £15 for 6 songs (*50% of profits from this will go to Resourcing Racial Justice UK Charity). We are setting this price level reasonably high as we want to make sure each song and the culture that this music came from is fully being honoured (by donations to the charity), and the cost of producing the recordings is also covered.
