Description

Hello Homebrewers!

At Homebrew Club a lot of you have been bringing fantastic homebrew to share. But did you know that you can submit your homebrew to competitions? "But how does that work? And who does the judging?" Who indeed? Even Goose Island submits beer to competitions periodically. But who decides what beers are good and what others don't make the grade? And how can you become one of those peope, a glorious, exalted BEER JUDGE!?

Our special guest this month is…the author of HomeBrewing for Dummies, Marty Nachel! Marty has been a judge with the Beer Judge Certification Program since 1986!!! Marty has been writing, judging, and promoting flavorful beer across the world ever since then. Marty is going to be speaking about what factors go into evaluating and judging beer, and how you can make your beer into a BJCP competition winner! Marty is also going to discuss the difference between judging homebrew and judging at professional competitions like FOBAB, where the standards and judging criteria are vastly different and the competition even more fierce.

As for special tappings this week, we're going to pull out some of our more recent experimental and R&D projects, to give you an idea of how to judge new brews. Come hang with us and finish out a fabulous year of homebrew club in the taproom, and we will also discuss our plans for Homebrew Club for 2018!

Schedule

8:00pm: Arrive and pick up 1 wooden token

8:15pm: Marty Nachel and Beer Judging

Cheers,

Beau
