Description
An hackathon is an event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers and project managers, collaborate intensively on software projects over a short period of time.
Google is organizing a Google App Engine Hackathon. An entire day of fun coding on App Engine platform. No attendace fee.
Teams are free to create any software project based on Google App Engine. No runtime restriction (Java, Python, Go and even PHP), total freedom on final hack, it can be a backend only apps, backend + web or mobile frontends, anything you like.
The only constrain is that your hack has to be fueled by App Engine. Plus you have all the other GAE companions at your disposal: Cloud Endpoints to create RESTful APIs, Cloud Storage and Cloud SQL to manage storage, Prediction API and much more.
And yes, they're going to be some prizes for the best teams ;)
Don’t worry if you are coming to the event without an idea or a project in mind. Some inspirations here, here, here and here. And don’t worry if you are coming by yourself, without a team already formed. The event begins with an introduction and a chance to create (or join) a team.
Event agenda
- 09:00: Registration and team creation
- 09:45: Opening
- 10:00: Hacking starts
- 17:30: Hacking stops
- 17:45: Hacks evaluation
- 18:45: Good bye
During the day, Googlers and other experts will provide training session on App Engine fundamentals and other Google Cloud Plaftorm solutions, so feel free to participate even if it's your first time on GAE 'nd friends.
What you need
Bring your own developer machine with Eclipse + Google Plugin, or Maven, or CodeEnvy (if you want a total cloud-based system). Hacks have to be hosted on GitHub and created during the event.
