Description

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with World Relief Sacramento!

This Good Neighbor Team Training is for church and community groups of 5-10 people who wish to come alongside a newly arrived refugee family in Sacramento - Carmichael, North Highlands, Arden-Arcade, Rancho Cordova, and South Sacramento for a 6-month commitment.

This is a private event shared with specific Good Neighbor Teams, therefore attendees must RSVP using a special code.

General Refugee Information (9:00am - 10:30am)

The first half of the session is meant to give you an introduction into refugee resettlement. You can expect to learn who refugees are, where they are coming from and why, what their lives are like here in the states, an overview of World Relief and the role of World Relief Sacramento.

Good Neighbor Team Overview and Roles (10:45am - 11:15pm)

We will lead the GNT in discussion about the responsbilities and requirements involved in the GNT experience. We will also be clarifying expectations and providng a framework for the 6-month relationship.

Cultural Sensitivity and Empowerment Principles (10:45am - 11:15pm)

During this portion, we will be walking through cultural sensitivity and empowerment principles. These topics allow volunteers to think about self-awareness, personal growth, and best ways to support refugees given your volunteer involvement.

Here are some ways you can help welcome refugees right now before you attend this training:

LearnIn the new book Seeking Refuge: On the Shores of the Global Refugee Crisis the authors draw from history, public policy, psychology, many personal stories, and their own unique Christian worldview, the authors offer a nuanced and compelling portrayal of the plight of refugees and the extraordinary opportunity we have to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Advocate - Call your Senator and Congressional representatives to tell them you are in support of refugee resettlement in the U.S., and encourage your family, friends, church or school to rally behind the cause and do the same. Visit http://www.worldrelief.org/advocate to learn more.

Pray - We invite you to join us in praying for the programs, staff, volunteers and church partners of World Relief. And most of all, we invite you to pray for the millions of vulnerable people around the world. Pray that God would meet their immediate needs, sustain them, and transform their lives and communities.
