Event description
Discover Sen. Barry Goldwater's photography with Arizona Highways editor Robert Stieve, meet fellow UA alums and help journalism students.

About this Event

Barry M. Goldwater, who died in 1998, was a longtime U.S. senator from Arizona and 1964 presidential candidate. His passion for photography, not politics, will be showcased in this event. Goldwater spent a lifetime carrying a camera, and his favorite subjects were ancient cultures of Arizona and the state’s incredible landscapes. The event, hosted by the Journalism Advisory Council for the University of Arizona School of Journalism, will benefit student reporting projects and travel. It also will feature Arizona Highways photo editor Jeff Kida and Daniel Swadener of Tempe, an art promoter and collector who is working with Alison Goldwater Ross on creating an exhibition of her grandfather’s photography in Wisconsin. The reception starts at 11 a.m., with a buffet lunch featuring sandwiches, sliders and salads at 11:30 a.m. School Director Carol Schwalbe will introduce the event. Read 1983 UA grad John D'Anna's story about Goldwater's photos.
