EXPLORE THE STUDIO COMPLEX IN THE UNDERBELLY OF TRELLICK TOWER
To coincide with this year's London Design Festival, Goldfinger Factory is opening its workshop -situated in the underbelly of world famous Trellick Tower- to the public to celebrate its full launch after a 3-year social experiment. The experiment was to see if an inner-city design and build workshop could help a chronic hotspot of social problems through the medium of reuse and craft.
As a social enterprise, we strive to inspire the community through the fabrication of bespoke furniture and interiors with a focus on a creative and innovative approach to using wood off-cuts and reclaimed materials. We help expert local artisans become self-sustaining by providing them with studio space and workshop facilities. In return, they pass on their knowledge and provide building services to the community free of charge. Our team has helped us deliver bespoke design and build services to high-profile clients such as John Lewis, Frieze Art Fair, London Fashion Week, Westfield and GAIL’s Artisan Bakery.
At the beginning of this year, we also launched a scheme which enables companies to sponsor a trainee to earn-while-they-learn with us and we currently have two local boys on the programme. They are provided with one-on-one training and intensive work experience in a swathe of traditional skills such as carpentry, joinery, cabinet making, metal work and paint effects.
After 3 years, we know we have a model that works for everyone by tackling wood waste issues, employing local people, protecting traditional skills and training the next generation of craftspeople. In fact, we’re so confident, we believe our model is the future of business and can be replicated all across London!
