Gala Proceeds Beneficiary: America’s Islamic Heritage Museum, www.aihmuseum.org.

Background: Similar to the “NAACP Image Awards” or “ALMA” Latino American Awards), the Golden Minaret Awards (GMA) was created to recognize outstanding achievements of Muslims in America of all races, ethnicities, and genders as well as institutions that serve Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Like other large Awards programs, the GMA is set to be televised and broadcast to millions around the world. While this event principally celebrates the achievements of Muslims in the US, the GMAs also seek to shine light on international champions that also deserve recognition. Our mission is to promote positive images of Muslims and help improve the relationship between the Muslim community and our non-Muslims relatives, coworkers, and neighbors.

In addition to recognizing stellar achievements, the GMA raises funds for deserving nonprofits. Proceeds from the 2017 GMA are being donated to the America’s Islamic Heritage Museum. Based in Southeast, Washington, DC, this museum shares AMA’s goals for highlighting the contributions of Muslims in this nation for more than 400 years. More information on the museum can be found at: www.aihmuseum.org.
