On Saturday, October 21st at the venue Electropositive in Brooklyn, the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation (Rush Arts) presents the sixth Gold Rush Awards, our annual event dedicated to celebrating cutting-edge art, music, fashion and culture.

Gold Rush combines the visual arts, music and nightlife into a single thrilling night, all grounded in the culture of hip-hop. It features an awards presentation, renowned DJs, an art exhibition and auction, raffle prizes and an open bar in a party atmosphere, attended by 200+ diverse tastemakers. Proceeds from Gold Rush support our Rush Gallery Program, but this is a fundraiser that doesn’t feel like a fundraiser: it’s a bold, gritty and glamorous night of music and art shared by a packed crowd of exciting people.

The 2017 Gold Rush Awards honorees include the photographer and founder of Hycide Magazine Akintola Hanif, mixed-media artist Lyle Ashton Harris multimedia artist and activist Vanessa German, Executive Director of the Gordon Parks Foundation Peter Kunhardt Jr. and author and curator Shantrelle Lewis. The night’s host will be columnist, filmmaker and cohost of the Combat Jack Show Dallas Penn, with music by DJ Azikwe “DJ Black Helmet” Mohammad along with live performances and more. Brooklyn-based Bedvyne is Gold Rush 2017 host of the after party.

Past honorees have included iconic artists, curators, writers and cultural influencers including Swoon, Renee Cox, Rashaad Newsome, Dread Scott, Derrick Adams, Hank Willis Thomas, Laurie Cumbo, Dee & Ricky, Victor Davson, Molly Crabapple, Cey Adams, Sarah E. Lewis, Kimberly Drew, Lauren Haynes and more, with past hosts and performers including Fab 5 Freddy, Sway, Salt ‘n’ Pepa and EPMD.
