Tue, May 23, 2017, 11:45 AM – 1:00 PM MST
Puppies and kittens are the stars of the internet. The Humane Society of Southern Arizona routinely has their own fury stars appear on the internet stage and stories go viral. Who can forget the story of nine puppies who were abandoned outside Park Place, or the wolf hybrid who was rehomed to a wolf sanctuary? These stories have been picked up by sites like Slate.com, The New York Daily News, The Dodo and HelloGiggles generating tremendous opportunities for donations and public relations.
We’ll hear from the Humane’s Society’s Vanessa Ford on the power of cat videos and learn how to go vral. Even better/worse, what happens if you didn’t prepare?
Presenter: Vanessa “V” Ford, Director of Marketing and Communications, Humane Society of Southern Arizona
Vanessa, or “V”, as she is known to most, has a background in public relations from the entrepreneurial and academic worlds, having served as the Public Relations Coordinator for the Department of Theatre and Film, University of Georgia, and the Vice President of Customer and Public Relations at ArtFire.com. She holds a Masters from the University of Arizona and is in the dissertation stage of her PhD from the University of Georgia, focusing on how the human brain processes interactive narrative. In her time at HSSA, first as the Associate Director of Marketing, and now as director, she uses this understanding of what motivates people to have meaningful, engaging conversations with our community about the needs of our animals, and the best ways to prevent animal suffering.
In her off time, V directs and consults on virtual reality projects, loves puppets, sculpting, sewing and robotics, and is teaching her 13 koi fish to eat from her hand. You can often find her hanging out in her backyard with her three dogs, Tango, Zoey and Molly - all rescues, and all lovingly spoiled rotten.
