God's Creation, Spirituality, and the Future of the Earth
Sun, Sep 10, 2017, 12:00 PM – Sat, Sep 16, 2017, 5:00 PM CDT
Join author and theologian Tony Jones for a week in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, one of the last untouched places in the Continental United States. Days will be spent canoeing through the pristine waters of the BWCAW, and evenings will be spent around a campfire, discussing an ecological doctrine of creation.
Participants will be challenged physically and intellectually. The BWCAW is rugged and breathtakingly beautiful. Participants should be able to handle several hours of canoeing and portages of up to one mile, with a 30-lb. pack. All gear, canoes, and food will be provided by Adventurous Christian Outfitters, and we will have one of their guides on the trip with us. All of their guides are certified in Wilderness Safety and First Aid. (You can read more about Adventurous Christians here.)
The group will gather in Minneapolis for dinner on the evening of Sunday, September 10. On Monday, we will drive north to Adventurous Christians, and there we will get a safety presentation and get outfitted with gear. We will enter the BWCAW on Tuesday morning, and come out on Friday. On Saturday morning, we will drive back to Minneapolis for flights home.
The total cost for the trip is $1000. A $250 deposit is due upon registration, and the balance is due on August 1. Air and ground transportation are not included -- only water transportation. :-)
The maximum number of participants is 7. Participants are responsible for transporation to Minneapolis, and for transportation from Minneapolis to Adventurous Christians (we will coordinate shared rides for the latter).
This trip can also be taken as a four-credit class in the Doctor of Ministry program at Fuller Theological Seminary. If you would like to pursue that option, you can do so here.
