Description

The 1918 Flu Epidemic: A 2018 Perspective
Carolyn Smith-Morris
, Department of Anthropology, Southern Methodist University

According to recent estimates, the global pandemic of 1918 claimed almost 100 million lives. If human mobility, casual behaviors, and social proximity played a crucial role in that crisis, what can we expect from a new and deadly virus in today’s world? As in 1918, our survival of the next virus mutation may depend less on medical breakthrough than social science.

5:15 p.m. Reception and 6:00 p.m. Lecture. Complimentary parking will be available in the Meadows Parking Center located underneath the museum.
