Screening of The Armor of Light
October 6, 7:00p.m. - The Riverside Nave
God and Guns opens with a screening of The Armor of Light on Thursday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m. in Riverside's Nave.
"Armor" tells the stories of Rev. Rob Schenck, an antiabortion activist and far right evangelical leader, and Lucy McBath, mother of Jordan Davis, an unarmed teen who was shot and killed in Florida. The film follows these unlikely allies through their trials of conscience, heartbreak and rejection, as they bravely attempt to make others consider America's gun culture through a moral lens.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with director Abigail Disney and film subjects Rev. Rob Schenck and Lucy McBath, moderated by Dr. Serene Jones, President of Union Theological Seminary.
Service to End Gun Violence with keynote Rep. Jim Himes
October 7, 7:30p.m. - The Riverside Nave
The closing keynote for God and Guns will be delivered by Rep. Jim Himes (CT 4th). Rep. Himes, along with the entire delegation from Connecticut, was part of the Democratic House sit-in in June following the Pulse Nightclub shooting. He has been outspoken on the need for Congress to pass legislation to combat gun violence.
Both events are free and open to the public. Tickets are required.
