GOAT YOGA (on Earth Day!)
Sat, April 22, 2017, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM PDT
Come celebrate Earth Day in a one-of-a-kind way at Sunny Cabana Farms! We have a beautiful setting for outdoor yoga practice, led by our certified yoga teacher, Christina Newman. And the best part is, the goats join in. And there will be baby goats. Connect with your inner farm girl or boy, even if you didn't know you had one. All of the proceeds from Goat Yoga will go toward helping us plant more trees on the farm and rejuvenate our soil.
We approach goat yoga from a playful and joyful place. Christina will lead us through a 50-minute Vinyasa practice, and participants are welcome to spend 30 minutes before and after class just "hanging out" with the goats. Class will begin promptly at 2:30, but please feel free to arrive as early as 2:00 p.m. to find a good spot and warm up with the goats. Participants are welcome to hang out afterward for a bit as well, but we do need to wrap things up by 4 p.m. so that we can get the goats fed and ready for bed.
We advise you to bring your own mat, although we will have a limited number available. Please keep in mind that this is an outdoor class -- so you may wish to wear sunscreen and/or a light sweater.
Why goat yoga? Well, yoga is great for the body and mind, and goats are just great. We love them both at Sunny Cabana Farms, so why not bring them together? Plus, there's research to suggest that Goat Yoga is therapeutic and helps relieve stress. Think of it as a way to combine the release of endorphins you get from exercise, with an increase oxytocin during pet therapy, all the while lowering your blood pressure and making you SMILE!
Can we just come and pet the goats without yoga? I don't really do yoga.
Goat Yoga is a very casual fun environment. You are welcome to just sit, meditate and pet the goats but you do have to still sign up for a class.
Are there any bathrooms?
Yes, we have a restroom and sink in our workshop space. It's not fancy, but it'll do.
What kind of goats are they?
We have Nubian goats, mini Nubians (a mix of Nubian x Nigerian Dwarf), and mini La Manchas (a mix of La Mancha x Nigerian Dwarf).
What about the goat poo?
Yes, poo happens. We tidy up before the class, but goats are not cats or dogs - they go when and where they go. But goat poo doesn't stink and it's a small pellet, so it's not likely to cause you any trouble.
Are spectators allowed at Goat Yoga?
We understand that many people come to goat yoga and don't want to do yoga. You still need to pay for the class, we have a limited amount of people permitted on the property.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
For everyone's safety, we prefer that participants are at least 10 years old and comfortable around animals. They should be able to make it through a fun yoga class and not wander around.
What can I bring into the event?
Bring a yoga mat, some water, something to take pictures with, and an open heart!
What happens in a typical Goat Yoga class?
Goat yoga takes place at our small farm and micro-dairy in Riverside, CA. If you want to spend a little more time with goats you can come 20-30 min early but we might put you to work. ;) You will set up your mat or towel in a field with goats! Christina will start the yoga class with some basic yoga sequences appropriate for all levels while Kayla makes sure everyone has a unique goat experience during their practice. Throughout the 50-minute practice there will be opportunities for you to try out more poses with the goats and friends. You may just want to sit back and watch the goats interact with the class! We invite you to linger and feel the joy the comes from these lovely goats.
