Go Natural: Nature Based Solutions for Cities Forum
Tue, May 2, 2017, 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM BST
Achieving ambitious climate and sustainability goals presents our cities with both an opportunity and a challenge. Transitioning to a low-carbon, climate resilient urban future is typically costly and technically complex. The stakes are high. Cities compete for talent and investment, an ever increasingly mobile global workforce seek high quality healthy urban environments, infrastructures require maintenance and upgrades in the face of unprecedented environmental and social change. In just one aspect, air pollution, approximately 90% of the EU’s urban population live with unhealthy outdoor air.
Aim of the Forum
It seeks to outline the value of nature based solutions to deliver innovative and effective improvements for cities globally. A diverse range of experts will cover the scientific, design, development, and financing issues for London and all cities. Imperial College London will then present the outcomes from their Climate-KIC supported innovation project – Blue Green Solutions and launch their guide.
Blue Green Solutions Guide
Imperial College London, with the support of Climate-KIC, is pioneering a resource efficient approach, the Blue Green Solutions guide. One that systematically unlocks the multiple benefits of green (vegetated) infrastructure to deliver urban developments that are both resilient and sustainable. Some solutions are small and happen at a grass roots level (pocket gardens) and tree lined streets, others at a larger scale where greater coordination and investment is required. All play a part in systemic, benefits led solution for buildings and districts. Authored by researchers from Imperial College London in partnership with Climate KIC, the guide presents the innovative, systematic framework created to harness the power of Nature Based Solutions and so deliver attractive, resilient and cost-efficient cities and developments.
