Event description

Description

This is the story of Doris Haddock - famously known as "Granny D" - who at the age of 88 set out on a stroll across the United States in support of campaign finance reform. Her journey began on New Year's Day, 1999, and it would take her 14 months to cover over 3200 miles from Los Angeles to Washington D.C., traveling 10 miles a day. She celebrated two birthdays along the way, and helped raise awareness and passage of the "Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act" (the McCain/Feingold law). In 2010, the Supreme Court's "Citizens United" ruling overturned portions of this law related to the contributions allowed by corporations and unions.

America is now in trouble again with "Big Money" influencing our elections and corrupting our democracy, which is why People Govern, Not Money is sponsoring a MA ballot initiative to help return our government to one that is run by people, not money. Let's learn and be inspired by the sprit of this amazing woman, played by Barbara Bates Smith and accompanied by Jeff Sebens, as they tell the story of Granny D through her jorunals and memoirs about the trip.

Sign up to attend and reserve your seats now! All ticket donations will go to support the "People Govern, Not Money" ballot campaign, and we are very thankful for your generous contribution.
