Description

Join us on Thursday, March 28th for our annual academic conference, gnoviCon, featuring two panel discussions on Big Tech, Data, and Democracy.

The first panel discussion, “Big Tech & Competition Policy,” will engage the challenges of regulating a market increasingly dominated by a few companies, focusing on Amazon Inc. as a case study to consider the tools and strategies the federal government might employ to challenge that power. This panel will include Diana Moss from the American Antitrust Institute, Mark Whitener from the McDonough School of Business, Harold Feld from Public Knowledge, Philip Verveer of the Shorenstein Center Harvard Kennedy School, Lauren Willard from the Department of Justice Antitrust Division, and moderator Mark MacCarthy from Georgetown University’s Communication, Culture, and Technology program.

The second panel, “Big Tech & the Future of Democracy,” will direct the discussion toward the wider political and social implications of the big tech platforms. This panel will include Siva Vaidhyanathan from the University of Virginia, Sally Hubbard from Open Markets Institute, Ethan Porter from George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs, Emily K. Vraga from George Mason University, and moderator Elizabeth Edenberg from Georgetown University’s Ethics Lab.

gnoviCon will be held from 11 am to 3 pm in the Healey Family Student Center Social Room on Georgetown's main campus.

Panelists will participate in a roundtable discussion, followed by a Q&A from the audience. You can submit questions beforehand by emailing gnovis@georgetown.edu.
