Description
SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment) is a comprehensive, evidence-based, public health approach to the early identification, intervention and treatment for persons along the continuum of substance use risk.
Trainees will learn to:
• Comfortably administer, score, and provide feedback on substance risk using validated screening tools.
• Describe the goals of conducting a brief intervention.
• Develop or strengthen Motivational Interviewing principles and techniques.
• Utilize the Brief Negotiated Interview (a form of Brief Intervention).
• Assist with planning goals tailored to the individual and their substance use risk level.
• Conduct appropriate referrals through education, motivation, and follow-up.
