GMNY 2017: MEDIA LITERACY - WHO CONTROLS THE NARRATIVE?
Once again, it is that time of the year. We are announcing and looking forward to our annual GMNY 2017 Conference – “Media Literacy: Who Controls the Narrative?”, which will be held on Saturday, February 11th, 2017.
The Greater Metropolitan New York Social Studies Conference is a one day professional development event held annually in February of each year, most frequently on the first Saturday of the month. The UFT has graciously served as host for the conference since the UFT was able to purchase a building with appropriate space in lower Manhattan. The Planning Committee meets approximately eight times per year to select the conference theme, and solicit participation by educators within the Greater New York Metropolitan area. This means that workshop presentation and participation is welcomed from the entire educational community, including both public and private Pre K through grade twelve teachers, administrators and support staff, college and university, museum educators, and the respective businesses who support the educational community
The conference is sponsored in New York City by the ATSS/UFT, in cooperation with the Social Studies Supervisors Association and, Long Island Council for the Social Studies and Westchester Council for the Social Studies when available, the New York City Department of Education. Major funding for the conference is provided by the United Federation of Teachers. The space and food portions of the conference budget are underwritten in great part by the UFT.
