Event description

Description

MIT Concert Choir

Directed by William Cutter

“GLORIA” - a program featuring three wonderfully varied settings of the “Gloria” text from the Roman Mass. The “Gloria” is an early prose hymn whose origins have been traced back to a “morning prayer”

in the Apostolic Constitution (c.380) and to a Greek version of the the 2nd century. The “Gloria” is a hymn of praise sung immediately after the “Kyrie” in the Ordinary of the Mass and is sung on all festal occasions.

Concert Repertoire

“Gloria” from Mass in g minor - Ralph Vaughan Williams (Double chorus a cappella)

“Gloria” - Antonio Vivaldi (SATB with SA solos* and orchestra)

“Cantata 191, Gloria in excelsis Deo” - Johann Sebastian Bach (SATB with ST* solos and orchestra)
