EVENT SERIES DATES
Event 1 (Mon, Feb 3rd): French film screening and discussion of "The Cat, The Reverend, and The Slave"(2009) with film director, Alain Della Negra. This event will take place, February 3rd at 6:30-8:30pm in the Georgia Tech Student Center Theater. *The film will have English subtitles and the discussion will be in English as well.
Event 2 (Fri, Feb 21st) Arabic film screening and discussion of "Taste of Cement"(2017) by Ziad Kalthoum, with guest speaker Dr. Taha K. Sultan Al Barghathi, a representative of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. This event will take place Friday, February 21st from 7-10pm in the Gatech Student Theater. *The film will have English subtitles and the discussion will be in English as well. Event 3 (Fri, Feb 28th): Persian film screening and discussion of "Soheila No.17” (2017) with film director, Mahmoud Ghaffari. Event 4 (Mon, Mar 9th): Japanese film screening and discussion of "Mental" (2008) with director Kazuhiro Soda. This event will take place Monday, March 9th from 6:30-8:30pm in D.M. Smith Building - room 102. *The film will have English subtitles and the discussion will be in English as well.
Event 5 (Tues, March 24th): German film screening and discussion of "Oray"(2019) with director, Mehmet Buyukatalay. This event will take place March 24th from 4-6pm in the Kendeda Building Auditorium, room 152.
Event 6 (Mon, April 6th): Chinese film screening and discussion of "Things I Never Said", a documentary about mental health of Asian Americans, set to release in 2020. Film director, Wendy Wang and producer, Beatrice Ho, will talk about their artistry followed by a short panel discussion and Q&A. EVENT OVERVIEW
The Global Media Festival is School of Modern Languages' annual film screening and discussion event with topics focused on sustainability across languages and cultures. The purpose is to provide a global interdisciplinary forum that creates awareness of the cultural and linguistic challenges that emerge from the different meanings and interpretations of sustainability in diverse contexts. The goal is to educate viewers to be true global citizens with humanitarian skills, as it is through awareness of others’ needs and viewpoints that one may create meaningful change.
