Event description

The Education Workforce Report will introduce new approaches to rethink how we design, train, and develop the education workforce – including teachers, support staff, school and district leaders, and the many other professionals working to deliver quality education that prepares children for the future. Please register on this page to attend the launch event and reception in New York on September 23, 2019.

Invitation from Education Commissioner and Chair of the Education Workforce Initiative Ju-Ho Lee:

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to invite you to the global launch of the Education Workforce Report on September 23. This new report, influenced by the Commission’s Learning Generation report, aims to rethink the education workforce. Teachers are at the heart of learning – but to meet SDG 4, almost 69 million teachers must be recruited globally by 2030 with over 76 percent needed in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Even in places where there are sufficient teachers, many are not qualified or poorly trained and often work in isolation in challenging conditions. New approaches are desperately needed to address teacher shortages and support them to be effective.

But teachers cannot achieve SDG 4 or adapt to the changing world alone. How can governments harness the human capital of the education workforce as a whole – including teachers, school leaders, support personnel, district and state officials, and the many others impacting students – to ensure quality, inclusive education that prepares all children for this century?

The Education Workforce Report will present the latest evidence and experience on education workforce reform, explore new approaches, and draw on lessons from other sectors to catalyze new thinking on the education workforce needed in education systems today, tomorrow and in the future.

The full program will be shared with registered guests soon, but it will include a presentation on the report’s key findings and include an interactive discussion among policymakers and education workforce leaders, featuring:

  • Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education in Ghana;

  • Matthew Rycroft CBE, Permanent Secretary at the UK’s Department for International Development;

  • Susan Hopgood, President of Education International (TBC);

  • Ju-Ho Lee, Chair of the Education Workforce Initiative

Please register on this Eventbrite page by Friday, August 30th. For questions, contact I hope to see you there.
