Event description

Description

Grade 6-12 participants** will learn about and explore the changes to the Global History and Geography II Regents and the transition plan for the exam during 2018-2020. Participants will consider the implications for teaching and learning of upper grade social studies and how the work they do in their grade supports how students learn and demonstrate conceptual understandings and content knowledge of the social studies. Participants will analyze their own lessons* as well as design lessons, learning activities, and formative assessments modeled after the new Regents format. Lesson analysis and planning will incorporate the unifying themes of social studies, social studies practices, historical thinking skills, disciplinary literacy strategies, as well as Global and/or U.S. History content.

In addition, participants will explore a variety of Differentiation strategies as they pertain to all students for enrichment and intervention. We will explore and practice the different methods in reaching our students as well as receiving and creating tools to support how students learn best.

*PLEASE NOTE: Participants are expected to bring a current unit of study/lesson(s), with identified challenges in teaching or student learning of the concepts, themes, and/or content. Participants are expected to bring (at least two) samples of student data and work to every session.

**Please note: Schools are encouraged to send a team of two - one general education teacher and one ICT/ Special Education teacher.
