Event description

Description

The view from your backyard is something special and rare – a ravine. Its tree-covered slopes are home to native birch trees, songbirds, butteries, wildflowers and year-round foliage. It adds scenic vistas to your neighborhood and privacy to your backyard.

While all it takes to enjoy your ravine is a brief gaze from your kitchen window or a short walk down its tree-covered slopes, keeping your ravine healthy and beautiful can be a challenge. Without thoughtful action, ravines are vulnerable to erosion and slope failures that can literally wash away land and property value, and increase pollution to Lake Michigan.

You’ll hear from the Alliance for the Great Lakes, Daniel Creaney Company and Chicago Botanic Garden:

  • How stormwater can harm your ravine

  • How local ravine and stormwater policies can help or hurt

  • How to keep ravines safe and stable

  • How you can care for your ravine through landscaping

  • How the upcoming Lake Michigan Watershed Management Plan could protect ravines, and how you can get involved

You’ll also meet ravine homeowners from all over Glencoe and have a chance to participate in small group conversations led by our own Sustainability Task Force.
