Glass Shop Tool Training FEB
Monday, February 24, 2014 from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM (EST)
Learn the safety procedures and proper tool operation to use the small torches and the annealing oven for soda-lime glass with a coefficient of thermal expansion of 104 without supervision.
Students will learn to do the following tasks in order to be able to work independently in the glass shop at Artisan's Asylum as members:
- Check for gas leaks
- Set up oxy-propane system
- Establish a neutral flame
- Program the annealing oven
- Make a large gather
- Clean shop
Students must have experience flameworking, and be at least 18 years old.
All materials are provided.
What to Bring:
Bring water in a sealable container and wear closed-toe shoes and clothing made of natural materials.
This class is taught by Joanne and Michael Soroka. Joanne has been melting glass for over a decade and was trained by well known Venetian lamp workers and some of the up and coming American glass rock stars of today. She is unstoppable. Her son, Michael, has several years of experience working with glass and has helped make a working invisible glass submarine.

REFUNDS: We offer full refunds for any class cancellations more than three days in advance of the class start date. After that point refunds are contingent upon the Asylum being able to fill the seat. No refunds whatsoever are offered for same-day cancellations. CANCELLATIONS: Your class may be cancelled if too few people register. A decision will be made a few days before the class is scheduled to run, and you will be notified of the cancellation and your registration refunded in full.
