Event Details

Glass Heart Pendants

Whether your interest is to make a single pendant you can take home and wear to show off your craftsmanship or to learn about the properties of a material as it changes phase from solid to liquid and back again, this is the class you should take.

We will learn about safe flame working behaviors as we use table-mounted lampworking torches to create a molten gather of liquid glass, shape it into an aesthetically pleasing shape, pull a loop out of the body of the pendant, and use the annealing oven to relieve internal stress in the glass as it cools.

We will begin conversations about tools, glass properties, and types of glass that will establish a solid foundation for any type of glass work you may find yourself dreaming about for the future. Many of the skills in this class serve as an introduction to marble making and sculptural glass work as well, but the primary goal of this class is to give you control over molten fluids and confidence near the flame.

Class Goals:

This class is designed so any person of any skill level can learn something new. Students will come out of class with one or more completed glass pendants of their own.

No previous experience required. Students must be at least 18 years old.

Materials Provided:

The $15 materials fee covers the cost of materials and wear on the tools. All materials and tools will be provided by the instructor and the Asylum.

What to Bring:

$15 materials fee, payable to the instructor by cash or check and water in a sealable container. Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothing made of natural materials.

Instructor Biography:

Joanne & Mike Soroka

This class is taught by Joanne and Michael Soroka. Joanne has been melting glass for over a decade and was trained by well known Venetian lamp workers and some of the up and coming American glass rock stars of today. She is unstoppable. Her son, Michael, has several years of experience working with glass and has helped make a working invisible glass submarine.

Event Time:

Monday, April 7, 6:45-9:15pm
