GLAM Wikimedia Conference Tel Aviv 2018 - Open Cultural Knowledge
Event Information
Description
GLAM is an acronym for Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums, and refers to cultural institutions that have access to knowledge as their mission (Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia).
GLAM Wikimedia Conference 2018 is a three-day international conference dedicated to open knowledge and cultural heritage, with the aim of finding new ways of making GLAM knowledge accessible to the general public.
The conference will bring together professionals from the GLAM sector and representatives and specialists from open knowledge organizations like Wikimedia. The event will focus on increasing awareness among those who work in the GLAM world to the advantages and importance of digitizing cultural heritage and making it freely accessible. By doing so we hope to inspire and motivate participants to start up their own open GLAM projects.
The speakers will come from all around the world, from both the GLAM and Wikimedia communities. Among them will be: Loic Tallon - Chief Digital Officer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Kate Zwaard - Director of Digital Strategy at the Library of Congress, Katherine Maher - Executive Director at Wikimedia Foundation, Ernesto Miranda Trigueros & Vania Ramírez Islas - Digital Agenda in the Secretariat of Culture of Mexico.
During three days of keynote lectures, talks, workshops, meetups and social events, the diverse group of GLAM and open knowledge experts will be able to share their experiences, learn from one another, and discover new ways to create, enrich and reuse free cultural knowledge.
