upArt Contemporary Art Fair
Not your traditional salon style art fair, upArt focuses on the diversity and vitality of contemporary art today. Running during Art Toronto, upArt brings together artists, curators and galleries to transform the entire second floor of the hotel with new, site-specific installations produced specifically for this event.
Our 2010 exhibition, For What It’s Worth: Curios, Collections and Counterfeits, explores ideas around collecting and the value we place on the objects we covet. What is real, what is worthy and how do we attribute value? Playing with themes of authenticity and value, galleries and artists propose models of exchange or new ways of collecting, appraising and sharing artwork.
Join us in the Art Bar for Terry Tanner’s Trading Post, a playful place for people to meet and exchange all kinds of material and immaterial goodies. Artwork, family jewels, buttons, fine china, zombie slaves, freaky folktales, Canadian Tire money, vintage memorabilia, used gold, sound advice – anything goes! Traders, hoarders, hustlers and dealers of all stripes are invited to get in on the action.
