Event description

Imagine the towering peaks and alpine lakes of the Rockies, the Milky Way arching across them at night and the first rays of the sun lighting them up each morning. This workshop will immerse you and a small group of participants in the art of landscape and night skies photography in Glacier National Park. We’ll take advantage of the park’s dark night skies and stunning sunrises and sunsets as we explore the Crown of the Continent!

You'll stay two nights at the historic Glacier Park Lodge, the first hotel built by the Great Northern Railway and located at the southeast corner of Glacier National Park. For the last night of the trip, we’ll move to the St. Mary Village, located on the eastern end of iconic Going-to-the-Sun-Road, and the shores of St. Mary Lake.

The workshop begins the evening of July 30th with a dinner reception at Glacier Park Lodge and will allow you to get to know the photographers and instructors in our workshop. From there, we will begin exploring Glacier National Park through the lens of your camera. Be prepared to walk up to a quarter mile on uneven surfaces to get to each shoot location.

Tamron USA will have their full complement of lenses available to loan out to you for the entire program, including their award-winning 15-30 (FX and DX in Canon, Nikon, and Sony mounts). National Park Trips Media (an Authorized Permittee of the National Park Service) and Tamron USA have teamed up to offer the National Park Photography Workshop series in several national parks across the Western US in 2019.

All participants must arrange transportation to the host lodging properties. We will provide transportation from these locations to all shoot locations within Glacier National Park. Be prepared to walk up to a quarter mile on uneven surfaces to get to each shoot location.

Weather in the Northern Rockies in mid-summer can still be quite chilly! Daytime temperatures average in the high 60’s and nighttime temperatures can drop into the low 40’s. Wearing layers and bringing warm clothing is suggested as snow is not unheard of in the park in July at higher elevations!

Inclement Weather:

If weather prevents photographing the night skies, we will have several contingencies

We recommend you bring a laptop for the post-processing class. A comprehensive packing list will be provided to participants prior to the trip.
