Event Details

Dear Nonprofit Professional:

We are excited to invite you to get started on a profile in the Giving Common. Please find information below about training for the Giving Common.  If this training is full or the date and time is not available, please visit https://www.givingcommon.org/trainings/ for other dates.  One-on-one training sessions are also available.

About the Giving Common

The Giving Common is a unique online resource designed to increase knowledge about the nonprofit sector and encourage charitable giving in Massachusetts. The Boston Foundation launched the Giving Common in spring 2012. The Giving Common will engage Massachusetts nonprofits in completing profiles of their organizations’ programs, management, financial and governance structure which will be available via an online database to support the effectiveness of donors, funders, nonprofit organizations and other community stakeholders.

About the Training

In the training, we will review the benefits to completing a profile, training documents, tour the site and have a hands-on training on the computer.

Staff will be available to reply to one-on-one questions and help you with your profile.

After the training, you will know how to input materials, understand the tips and tricks of getting information into the system and have confidence in entering information.

Training is optional.  We are available for one-on-one trainings as well if you need additional support or do not find a time that works for you.

Please bring your laptop if possible. We will have a limited number of laptops available for your use.

Who can attend a training?  Who should attend training?

In order to attend a training, you must represent a qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity.  Most nonprofits send the person who completes online grant applications to trainings as this person usually has the majority of the information needed.

Who should I contact with questions?

If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Giving Common team at GivingCommon@tbf.org.

Sincerely,

The Giving Common Team

The Boston Foundation

The Boston Foundation, Greater Boston’s community foundation, is one of the largest community foundations in the nation, with net assets of some $1 billion. In 2016, the Foundation and its donors paid $100 million in grants to nonprofit organizations and received gifts of more than $107 million. The Foundation is proud to be a partner in philanthropy, with more than 1,000 separate charitable funds established by donors either for the general benefit of the community or for special purposes. In celebration of its Centennial in 2015, the Boston Foundation launched the ongoing Campaign for Boston to strengthen the Permanent Fund for Boston, the only endowment focused on meeting the most pressing needs of Greater Boston. The Boston Foundation also serves as a major civic leader, think tank and advocacy organization, commissioning research into the most critical issues of our time and helping to shape public policy designed to advance opportunity for everyone in Greater Boston. The Philanthropic Initiative (TPI), a distinct operating unit of the Foundation, designs and implements customized philanthropic strategies for families, foundations and corporations both here and around the globe. For more information about the Boston Foundation or TPI, visit tbf.org or call 617-338-1700.
