Part 1: Changing the Conversation – Understanding How Tax Reform Affects Our Donors

The recently passed tax reform package has the potential to impact, perhaps significantly, the dynamics of development. Jim Maher, CEO of Archford Capital Strategies will host and facilitate a high level discussion covering the key elements of the new legislation. Nonprofit employees, board members and directors will be able to use this information in conversations with current and potential donors to highlight the continued importance and value of charitable giving. Local BDO Tax partner Marie Carlie and nationally recognized estate planning attorney Kathleen Bilderback of Affinity Law Group will join Jim in sharing their considerable experience and expertise on what may be the most important topic in non-profit development this year.

Marie possesses over 30 years of tax and business advisory experience serving emerging and middle-market companies. She oversees all aspects of tax engagements and is responsible for the proactive delivery of tax services. Marie has provided consultation on tax-related issues for individuals and business entities in a variety of industries, including emerging technology and life sciences, manufacturing & distribution, not-for-profit and real estate.

About Kathleen Bilderback
Kathleen graduated from St. Louis University with degrees in Accounting and Theatre. She received her law degree and LL.M. in Taxation from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. Kathleen specializes in estate, business and executive benefits planning and estate and executive compensation planning with life insurance. She is a member of the Missouri, Illinois and Pennsylvania bars as well as an active member of the American Bar Association and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. She is a nationally recognized speaker and author and adjunct professor in the LLM program at Washington University’s School of Law. She is a founding member of Affinity Law Group, LLC, a firm dedicated to providing legal services to businesses, their owners and executives at every stage of their life cycles. She is a member of the Business Insurance & Estate Planning Committee of the Association of Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU). She currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the St. Louis Children’s Hospital Legacy Advisors and as President of the Society of Financial Service Professionals-Greater St. Louis Chapter.

Part 2: How to Use Social Media to Inspire Giving and Social Sharing on Give STL Day 2018

Now entering its fifth year, Give STL Day is a day of giving fueled by the power of social media. The urgency of a fundraising campaign occurring within a 24-period inspires individuals to donate, but only if your nonprofit prepares in advance and creates an integrated online fundraising campaign that understands what motivates giving day donors to give and share your campaign online.

To help your nonprofit succeed on Give STL Day 2018, this three hour training will detail how to use social media effectively before, during, and after #giveSTLday, specifically:

  • How to create and launch a 6-week Give STL Day social media campaign.

  • How to incorporate social media into your website and email strategy.

  • The importance of creating social media graphics for your campaign.

  • How to build a team of ambassadors to help promote your campaign.

  • How to successfully follow-up with donors and supporters after #giveSTLday.

St. Louis Area Foodbank Hunger Engagement Center:
The St. Louis Area Foodbank’s Hunger Engagement Center is a multi-functional, A/V equipped, and fully flexible learning and meeting space designed to accommodate groups of 15 to 180. A visit to the Hunger Engagement Center for a program with our education specialist is a great way to increase your hunger awareness and become engaged in our work. The HEC is also available for private rentals, making it is the perfect setting for hosting board meetings, seminars, and corporate retreats.

A note about parking:

Please park in the volunteer lot. Because parking is limited, please carpool if at all possible. In the event the volunteer lot fills, staff will be on site to direct guests to the back lot.
