Description

Have you ever spent a very long week solving a very tough problem and then had your computer crash and you lost all your work? Ever had your production environment act so broken that you needed to (or wanted to) 'roll back' to the previous version? Come learn software best practices for handling these situations.

Revision control? Version control system? Software configuration management? Whatever you call it, managing source code is one of the basic skills software developers need to master. In this talk, Annette will start with the basics of how and why we manage source code. We’ll use Git, one of the most popular tools in use today, as an example to learn the basic operations of version control. Once we cover the basics, we’ll dig into the nitty gritty of Git. After this talk you’ll be comfortable, and hopefully motivated, to use the powerful Git command line.
