Description

Curiosity Quest Problem Solvers Day Camp

This is a unique day camp that includes field trips, data collection, problem solving, and leadership in our watershed. This four-day camp is for young women, 6th – 8th grade, who want to learn more about our world and how they can use their talents to take care of it. These four days will be filled with memorable experiences that help shape a deep understanding of our local water resources and some problems that need solving within it.

Day 1 of the camp will bring the girls into the mountains and to headwater streams, the source of the natural surface water in our watershed. Day 2, the campers will explore the Santa Ana River. Day 3, campers will see where the water from our mountains and rivers end up with a day at the beach. Day 4, the final day of camp, campers will prepare their findings and solutions to problems in the watershed to their families and community members.

Host of PBS show Curiosity Quest, Joel Greene, will join the camp to see what the girls have observed and what problems they have solutions for.

2. Where does the camp take place?

  • Each day of camp we begin and end the day at the Chino Basin Water Conservation District (CBWCD) located at 4594 San Bernardino Street in Montclair. Tuesday we will have a field trip to the mountains at the Lower San Antonio Service Station. Wednesday we will have a field trip to the Santa Ana River. Thursday we will have a field trip to Huntington Beach. Friday will be the only day that is entirely at CBWCD.

3. Can a Camper only attend one day?

  • This day camp builds towards a culminating problem solving project. Each day is integral to the program, so all Campers are expected to attend all four days.
